Hello foodies! Whether you are a Capetonian or planning a visit to our beautiful city in the future this is one experience you definitely need to know about! I was recently invited to join a vegan food tour around Cape Town’s CBD, and after seeing some of the photos from previous tours on social media I could not wait to try it out for myself.

It’s icy out there thanks to the deluge of snow the Cape has received over the last few days (so prettyyyyy!) but I am here to help with some gorgeous baked puddings served up in pleasing individual pie format, yay! Of the many cold weather comfort foods to look forward to at this time of the year home made pies are definitely in my Top 5. Plus you get major domestic god(dess) points for making them from scratch. If you are into savoury pies you might enjoy these creamy chicken and mushroom pot pies or these conveniently hand-sized spinach and feta empanadas. And for the dessert course look no further than these scrumptious mini chocolate orange meringue pies.

Cinnamon has got to be one of the most delicious and popular spices out there, and I am rather prone to putting it in everything. Aside from its gorgeous flavour it also has several health benefits. It is full of antioxidants, helps to lower blood pressure and has antiviral and anti inflammatory properties. All the more reason to sprinkle a little more cinnamon into your life.
I am betting you have a jar of this wonderful stuff in your pantry, so why not dig it out and try out some of these treats using this versatile spice. Don’t forget to let me know in the comments which cinnamon recipe is your favourite!

Helloo there. Welcome to March (say whaat?!) and my first blog post for the month. It’s a rather celebratory post and this recipe is inspired by one of my personal foodie icons, Yotam Ottolenghi. This easy chocolate cake recipe is adapted very slightly from one that appears in his book “Sweet” (co-written with Helen Goh) and the reason for this cake post is that this week Cupcakes and Couscous celebrates its fifth anniversary!

Valentine’s Day is coming up and this lovely little dessert is perfect for the occasion. It’s inspired by an old chocolate tart recipe I made back in college whilst doing my food training, and I have adapted it by adding a decadent dark chocolate ganache layer and using my favourite sweet pastry recipe for the base. (And if making pastry from scratch for someone isn’t a sign of love then I don’t know what is!)

We have been having plenty of ice cream weather this month, and what better time of the year to enjoy some delicious home made ice cream sandwiches. This recipe is taken from the book “Sweet” by Yotam Ottolenghi and Helen Goh, you may remember me mentioning it in a post a few weeks ago. This book is a must have for anyone who loves their baking and/or treats as it is filled to the brim with recipes for fabulous cakes, desserts, cookies and pies to name a few. There is also an entire chapter devoted to cheesecakes, what’s not to love?!

Happy New Year and hello 2018! I am happy to be back after a lovely break, it was great to have a change from the regular routine for a while. Now though, it’s time to get back into the swing of things and it really feels as though we have hit the ground running this week hasn’t it? (My inbox alone can attest to that.) I have got a good feeling about this year…2018 – I am ready for you!
