Festive chocolate and coconut cookies

Let’s fit one more recipe in before the end of the year shall we? I’ve been seeing so many beautiful holiday bakes over on Instagram lately, which has given me even more inspiration to get baking (not that I need much motivation in that department). Cookies and Christmas just go together perfectly!

Christmas mince pie brownies

Christmas mince pie brownies with melted chocolate

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! I won’t lie, the last few weeks have probably been the busiest and most stressful of the year and I cannot wait to close my laptop at the end of next week and prepare for Christmas as well as enjoy some down time at home with the family. Bring it on!

Soft chocolate sandwich cookies

Bakers, I’ve got a goodie for you this week. These melt-in-the-mouth chocolate cookies are a sublime tea time treat and lots of fun to make too. I based the recipe on these custard and vanilla bean sandwich cookies. These were so popular when I published them last year that I decided to tweak the recipe slightly and create a chocolate version.

Vanilla party cake

We’re celebrating two special family birthdays in October, my son’s and my dad’s, and in honour of that today I’m sharing my go-to vanilla party cake recipe. I can make the cake a day ahead and quickly ice it on party day which saves so much time and stress on the day. Of course the vanilla flavour just wonderful too, it’s always a crowd pleaser.

Hello from a very cold Cape Town! It’s been a crazy two weeks here trying to juggle distance learning, work and the usual day to day admin that needs to happen, and as a result it has taken me a while to get this post together. But I think these delicious cupcakes are definitely worth the wait.

Beef trinchado with bread rolls

The weather (not to mention the general atmosphere) has been pretty dreary, so I thought that this comfort meal would be the perfect thing to share this week. You’ll definitely want to add beef trinchado to your winter menu, and take your tastebuds on a virtual trip to Portugal at the same time!

Rooibos biscotti

This tea time treat includes a classic South African flavour – rooibos! Not only is it the beverage of choice for many of us (me included) but it can be used in baking and cooking to add a delicate, sweet and earthy taste. I have been wanting to play around with this flavour for a while and decided that I’d start with biscotti.
