I hope you’re all settling into the new year and 2022 has gotten off to a smooth start! Personally, I’m still trying to get back into work mode, but it’s tricky with the kids at home on holiday. They will be returning this week though, and that means that lunch boxes will be added back onto the daily to-do list!

Let’s fit one more recipe in before the end of the year shall we? I’ve been seeing so many beautiful holiday bakes over on Instagram lately, which has given me even more inspiration to get baking (not that I need much motivation in that department). Cookies and Christmas just go together perfectly!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! I won’t lie, the last few weeks have probably been the busiest and most stressful of the year and I cannot wait to close my laptop at the end of next week and prepare for Christmas as well as enjoy some down time at home with the family. Bring it on!

Bakers, I’ve got a goodie for you this week. These melt-in-the-mouth chocolate cookies are a sublime tea time treat and lots of fun to make too. We’re celebrating two special family birthdays in October, my son’s and my dad’s, and in honour of that today I’m sharing my go-to vanilla party cake recipe. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve made this cake, it’s THAT good. My favourite thing about it is that it keeps so well. Hello from a very cold Cape Town! It’s been a crazy two weeks here trying to juggle distance learning, work and the usual day to day admin that needs to happen, and as a result it has taken me a while to get this post together. But I think these delicious cupcakes are definitely worth the wait.

This tea time treat includes a classic South African flavour – rooibos! Not only is it the beverage of choice for many of us (me included) but it can be used in baking and cooking to add a delicate, sweet and earthy taste. I have been wanting to play around with this flavour for a while and decided that I’d start with biscotti.

These apple buns are such a treat and my family has requested them many times since I first tested the recipe a few weeks ago. I was so happy with the way they came out! The buns are soft and light, and if you love all things apple like us then you’ll also love the flavour. And to make them extra special they’re topped with a caramel flavoured cream cheese icing, need I say more?
