Lockdown recipe ideas and my top 8 stay at home tips

It’s week three of self isolation for my family not to mention one week into South Africa’s lockdown, and it felt wrong to just put out another recipe without acknowledging the strange and unsettling situation that we all find ourselves in right now. So for this post I’m doing something a little different and sharing not only some recipe inspiration but some thoughts on how we’re managing at home, and our new routine. Please feel free to add your own thoughts in the comments, I’d love to hear how you’re doing!

Eat Like A Local: My vegan food tour experience

Street food koeksisters in the Bo Kaap.

Hello foodies! Whether you are a Capetonian or planning a visit to our beautiful city in the future this is one experience you definitely need to know about! I was recently invited to join a vegan food tour around Cape Town’s CBD, and after seeing some of the photos from previous tours on social media I could not wait to try it out for myself.

Groot Constantia turns 333!

Groot Constantia's 333rd birthday celebration

Groot Constantia has long been one of my favourite spots in Cape Town, and on Friday 13 July the farm celebrated 333 years of uninterrupted wine production – quite phenomenal when you think about it! The day was marked with a special event attended by Groot Constantia trustees, staff and members of the media.

Cookie Swap 4 and chocolate orange sugar hearts

Cookie Swap 4 took place on the 2nd of August, and once again it was a national event that saw cookie lovers from around the country gathering together to exchange treats, socialise and most importantly raise money for Learn to Earn and specifically their Bake For Profit students who are in dire need of more kitchen equipment to assist with their training. Do have a look at the website to see how this fantastic organisation gives people “a hand up, not a hand out”!

Radio Tygerberg potjie competition

When I started blogging, one of my goals – apart from sharing my favourite recipes – was to challenge myself to try new ingredients and dishes. I certainly have done that a number of times, but last Saturday I truly stepped out of my comfort zone when this English cook from the Southern Suburbs agreed to take part in a potjiekos competition in the heart of the Boland as part of the Ommiberg “Round the Rock” Festival.

National Cookie Swap 2013 and spiced dark chocolate cookies

Well readers, I can’t wait to tell you about an exciting event that I attended over the weekend. If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter then you will no doubt know what I am talking about – the third annual Cape Town Cookie Swap! This year it was a national event with cookie swaps also taking place in Joburg and Durban on the same Saturday. Proceeds from the event went to Khayelitsha Cookies, and I will be telling you a bit more about this fantastic company in a little bit.
