Easter Basket cupcakes

A photo of Easter cupcakes

Holidays like Easter bring out my inner child. I love the egg hunts (you’re never too old in my opinion), the treats, the pastel colours – it’s hard not to get excited! Of course, having kids keeps that magic and excitement alive and these adorable Easter basket cupcakes are the perfect holiday baking project for them to enjoy.

Yo-ho-ho! How to make a pirate ship cake

Ahoy! The inspiration for this birthday cake comes from the official birthday cake handbook of the eighties (and beyond), “The Australian Women’s Weekly Kids’ Birthday Cakes”. How many of you can remember paging through this book as children, ogling all of the beautiful birthday creations? Talk about nostalgia. My copy of the book is not the original but a later version, however it but still features its legendary bakes like the train cake, the princess castle and the swimming pool (if you know, you know).

Apple crumble cupcakes

These pretty apple crumble cupcakes are my latest baking creation. I’ve been busy with lots of savoury recipe testing lately and felt like doing something on the sweet side – and these cupcakes will definitely keep that sweet tooth happy! They’re inspired by one of my family’s favourite desserts, the classic apple crumble, and have a spiced apple flavour, a creamy white chocolate buttercream icing and a crunchy crumble topping.

Vanilla party cake

We’re celebrating two special family birthdays in October, my son’s and my dad’s, and in honour of that today I’m sharing my go-to vanilla party cake recipe. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve made this cake, it’s THAT good. My favourite thing about it is that it keeps so well. I can make the cake a day ahead and quickly ice it on party day which saves so much time and stress on the day. Of course the vanilla flavour just wonderful too, it’s always a crowd pleaser.

Orange and rooibos cupcakes

Rooibos and orange cupcake recipe

Hello from a very cold Cape Town! It’s been a crazy two weeks here trying to juggle distance learning, work and the usual day to day admin that needs to happen, and as a result it has taken me a while to get this post together. But I think these delicious cupcakes are definitely worth the wait.

Ice cream cone cupcakes

Happy New Year foodies! I’m sure most of us breathed a sigh of relief when the clock struck midnight on December 31st, but we’re not quite out of the woods yet. After the major rollercoaster of a year that was 2020 I hope that you managed to squeeze in some holiday down time, and that the year ahead will be kinder to all of us.

Chocolate and pecan loaf cake

I remember baking and photographing this particular loaf on a grey and rainy winter afternoon. The chocolatey aroma wafting from the kitchen was just heavenly, and the wait while it cooled and was being photographed felt like forever. This simple chocolate loaf cake is a delight with its soft crumb and crunchy pops of pecan nuts, all slathered in velvety chocolate buttercream.
