Smokey pulled pork buns

This recipe is from a recent campaign I worked on, and I simply had to share it with you – it’s that good. The oven does most of the work here, and although the cooking time is a few hours the actual hands on prep time is minimal. The cooking time is worth it, you’ll be rewarded with tender pork that just falls apart. These smokey pulled pork buns are the business!

Small batch chocolate liqueur brownies

We’ve had these grown-up dessert brownies on repeat lately. The batter itself only takes a few minutes to mix together, and the brownies are topped with a layer of smooth dark chocolate ganache. I added a splash of chocolate liqueur to the brownies and the ganache for extra richness – so good!

Creamy leek and potato soup

This warming and creamy soup is just what you need to keep you toasty during this very cold spell. In Cape Town the sun has been shining these last few days, but make no mistake… it’s icy out there! You can’t beat the flavour of home-made soup, and the bonus of making a big batch is that you can freeze the leftovers for another day.

Lemon and rose mini cakes

In my last post I mentioned that I’d visited Ottolenghi in Spitalfields during my U.K. holiday. Being the fan that I am I simply had to make time to pop in during my trip and as I walked towards the restaurant entrance the first thing I spotted was the iconic giant meringues in the shop window, along with a large selection of tempting and beautifully decorated sweet treats, just gorgeous. Inside we spotted a table laden with the most incredible salads and hummus that I could have just devoured on the spot. I spent a bit of time perusing the store before it was time to move on, and while I was there I bought a jar of rose petals. Inspired by the beautiful treats that I saw that day I decided to make some lemon and rose mini cakes and decorate them with a few of the petals.

Beef and onion pie (plus a few favourite London foodie spots!)

This recipe is inspired by my trip to the U.K. last month and it’s a goodie for winter. I’ve used beef chuck in this pie filling which is fabulously tender, hearty and tasty. It’s just one of the meals I enjoyed during my stay, and I’ve listed a few other favourite foodie finds below, scroll down for the deets!

Lemon meringue pie

Hi foodies! I’ve just arrived back from a fabulous trip to the U.K. – what a treat! I spent most of my time in London getting reacquainted with the city that was my home for a few years after I got married, and I was reminded of how much I loved living there! I’ll share a few photos in my next blog post.

Onto the recipe, and if I had to choose my top three desserts this would absolutely be one of them!! I have always loved lemon meringue pie. It’s such a crowd pleaser too – whether we’re entertaining or I’ve made one as a treat for the family it’s always a hit. This is a bog standard recipe and the one I’ve been making for years and years. I never thought to post it here, but when I shared some pics of one I’d made on Instagram recently I had a few people asking me to share my recipe… here you go everyone! 😉

Bar-one cookies

I’m riffing off one of my favourite childhood cookie recipes this week and lemme tell ya, these cookies disappeared so quickly – we couldn’t stop snacking on them! I’ve used small bar-one chunks as the add-in here and they go deliciously chewy and gooey in the oven.

Warm butternut and barley salad

This recipe is inspired by a recent segment I did on the Expresso show where we prepared a dish with barley, and it reminded me that it’s been a while since I enjoyed this chewy and nutty grain. As winter draws closer for us in the southern hemisphere this is a wonderfully warming and satisfying salad to make and enjoy.
