Cranberry and white chocolate crunchies

There is a very simple story behind this one. Last weekend we were invited to a Christmas picnic with some playgroup friends and I was asked to bring a plate of sweet eats to share. “Fantastic!” I thought, right up my alley. Crunchies are usually always a hit with adults and children, and the fact that I was having a crazy weekend and needed something I could make in a jiffy made them even more perfect. I have a wonderful basic crunchie recipe which I have previously adapted to make chocolate crunchies and today I wanted to share the Christmas version that I made for the picnic.

Pumpkin spice cookies

While there is no denying that the arrival of summer is highly anticipated at the end of each year, I have to admit that I rather look forward to the autumn season. A welcome respite from the heat, beautiful red and brown leaves dotting the trees and an excuse to start enjoying some favourite comfort foods are just a few of the things that come to mind.

Top Deck tea biscuits and a visit to RSG

In my last post I wrote about the blog turning two and how grateful I am for the opportunities I have had on this journey so far – well it wasn’t a day later when another one came along. Two years ago I could not have imagined that I would be chatting biscuits with a foodie legend on her radio show! Tomorrow morning I will be joining the wonderful Nina Timm on RSG to do just that.

Chocolate crunchies

Hello friends, it has been a while! Are we counting down to Christmas already?

The last few weeks have been a rollercoaster of ups and downs as we welcomed our new little boy to the world. It has been an absolute joy to enjoy newborn cuddles, watch the beginnings of sibling bonding and see good friends arriving at the door with a meal in their hands (a definite highlight)! Unfortunately though, we have also had to contend with an awful bug that has been hanging around us for weeks, on top of the expected sleep deprivation and exhaustion (what day is it?). Yet here we are, 6 weeks later and I can happily report that we are all adjusting and starting to settle into our new “normal”.

Oat and raisin cookies

Things are seriously slowing down here at Cupcakes and Couscous HQ as we prepare to welcome our newest little cupcake to the family! And I think we are as ready as we will ever be – after a frantic last minute dash the nursery has been prepared, the baby clothes have been washed and sorted and my hospital bag is ready and waiting. Those who know me well will tell you that baking is one of my favourite things to do, and so while we count down the last few days until d-day I have managed fit in some baking time… and another recipe for you, hooray!

A Paddington Bear party and marmalade sandwich cookies

I am no stranger to long stints in the kitchen, but as I write this I feel as though I am still recovering from the cooking marathon that happened this past weekend. It was all for a very special reason though, as I was preparing for my daughters 2nd birthday party!

National Cookie Swap 2013 and spiced dark chocolate cookies

Well readers, I can’t wait to tell you about an exciting event that I attended over the weekend. If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter then you will no doubt know what I am talking about – the third annual Cape Town Cookie Swap! This year it was a national event with cookie swaps also taking place in Joburg and Durban on the same Saturday. Proceeds from the event went to Khayelitsha Cookies, and I will be telling you a bit more about this fantastic company in a little bit.

Macadamia and honey biscuits

Macadamia cookies with honey.
I was inspired to put this recipe together after receiving two bags of fresh macadamia nuts from a lovely friend. She is lucky enough to have a tree in her garden and harvests the nuts every year. They are so delicious – I think I will have to set up a standing order!
